Mission Statement:


As a not-for-profit, educational institution, the Ty Cobb Museum will foster an appreciation for the life and career of Tyrus Raymond Cobb and his impact on the game of baseball by collecting, preserving, exhibiting, and interpreting artifacts related to Cobb for a local, regional and national audience.

Through its mission, the Museum is committed to:

  • Collecting Ty Cobb baseball artifacts, works of art, literature, photographs, memorabilia and other materials related to Cobb's life.

     

  • Preserving the collections by adhering to professional standards with respect to conservation and maintaining a permanent record of holdings through documentation, study, research, cataloging and publication.

     

  • Exhibiting material in permanent gallery space located within the Ty Cobb Museum, organizing on-site changing exhibitions on various themes, with works from the Ty Cobb Museum collections or other sources, working with other individuals or organizations to exhibit loaned material of significance to Ty Cobb's life.

     

  • Interpreting artifacts through its exhibition and education programs to enhance awareness, understanding and appreciation of Cobb's extraordinary accomplishments, both on and off the baseball field.
