  • Cobb was given a fifty-dollar gold watch as a gift in his final appearance with the Augusta Tourists.
  • Fans in Detroit gave Cobb a diamond-studded watch for becoming the first player in the league to reach one hundred hits.
  • Cobb became the first pro athlete to appear in a movie when he starred in: Somewhere in Georgia in 1917.
  • On the first game Cobb played in Detroit for the Philadelphia
  • Athletics, Detroit fans presented their former outfielder and new
  • opponent with a Packard sedan and a fine silver service.
  • Although Cobb used the most expensive handmade clubs to play golf with the likes of Bobby Jones, he was still only a mediocre golfer.
  • Cobb was diagnosed in the Fall of 1959 with cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, and Brights Disease (a degenerative kidney disorder). By Spring of 1961, Cobb spent most of his time at Emory University Hospital for cobalt treatments to stop the spread of cancer which had since moved to his spine and skull.
  • Cobb attended his last ball game shortly before his death in 1961, throwing out the first pitch on opening day for the Los Angeles Angels.
