Ty Cobb Museum

Mission Statement

The Ty Cobb Museum is a nonprofit organization founded to perpetuate the memory of the greatest baseball hitter of all time, Tyrus Raymond Cobb.  It's mission is to foster education and understanding to the broadest possible audience the greatness of Ty Cobb. This mission is set forward by providing art and memorabilia, film, books and historical archives.  The museum collects, preserves, researches, interprets and exhibits items related to Ty Cobb and the game of baseball.

Through its mission, the Museum is committed to:

  • Collecting Ty Cobb baseball artifacts, works of art, literature, photographs, memorabilia and other materials related to Cobb's life.
  • Preserving the collections by adhering to professional standards with respect to conservation and maintaining a permanent record of holdings through documentation, study, research, cataloging and publication.
  • Exhibiting material in permanent gallery space located within the Ty Cobb Museum, organizing on-site changing exhibitions on various themes, with works from the Ty Cobb Museum collections or other sources, working with other individuals or organizations to exhibit loaned material of significance to Ty Cobb's life.

  • Interpreting artifacts through its exhibition and education programs to enhance awareness, understanding and appreciation of Cobb's extraordinary accomplishments, both on and off the baseball field.

Did You Know?

Cobb attended his last ball game shortly before his death in 1961, throwing out the first pitch on opening day for the Los Angeles Angels.
